Today, Xiaomi disclosed much information concerning the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 13 series of flagship phones. For instance, the company will uncover it on December 1. At the same time, Lei Jun also announced that the vanilla version and the Pro variant would remain dual-size flagships.
Xiaomi Mi 13 to have the narrowest chin
The poster shows that the Xiaomi Mi 13 adopts a straight screen + right-angle design. It will be a small-sized and thin flagship, while the Mi 13 Pro will continue to use a curved surface design.
It is worth noting that Mi 13’s straight screen may have set a new record, achieving an ultra-narrow bezel of 1.61mm and almost equal width on all four sides. The chin is only 1.81mm, which is 0.2mm wider than the rest of the frame borders. At the same time, the screen-to-body ratio is 93.3%. For comparison, the iPhone 14 is 2.4mm wide, and the iPhone 14 Pro is 2.15mm wide. We understand why Lu Weibing announced that the Mi 13 might come with the narrowest chin on Earth.
As we all know, in the past, many models embedded a circle of plastic edging between the screen and the middle frame. It was a layer of the plastic buffer. The plastic edging design has a highly unfriendly sliding touch experience for people who are used to full-screen gestures. It affects the texture of flagship phones to a certain extent. This time, the Mi 13 has removed the plastic edging, the most amazing Xiaomi direct-screen smartphone.
The Xiaomi Mi 13 will also have an IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating. This is the most substantial protection specification on current mainstream electronic products. Previously, only Apple and Samsung provided it as standard. The first Xiaomi model to come with such a rating was the Mi 11 Pro. At that time, Xiaomi also took the mobile phone to the Y-40 swimming pool to prove its waterproof ability. It was one of the deepest swimming pools in the world. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro perfectly achieved a depth of 42 meters.
Hardware and other features
In terms of hardware, under the hood, the phone will come with the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform. It achieves peak results in terms of battery life and performance. In the GeekBench 5 platform, the Mi 13 series scored 1507 points in single-core and 5343 points in multi-core tests. As a comparison, the Apple A16 chip has a single-core score of 1877 and a multi-core score of 5447.
In addition, the Mi 13 series has strong performance and dramatically upgrades the camera performance. The big Mi 13 Pro will directly use the 1-inch super outsole IMX989. Plus, due to the Leica imaging system, the camera performance will be significantly enhanced.
Design
Before this, we had heard that the Mi 13 series would also have a ceramic body. Many users are obsessed with it because ordinary glass cannot achieve a corresponding effect.
There will be up to 10 colorways on the phone. Thus, this is the world’s first and only flagship smartphone with many color options.
Both models in the series will adopt a nano-skin technology, providing “an unprecedented material innovation, leather feel, better anti-wear, anti-discoloration, and anti-dirty performance.
The Mi 13 Pro will have four colors: black, white, green, and pink. Among them, the green and pink will have plain leather versions.
Xiaomi adopted the environmentally friendly organic silicon leather material on the 12S Ultra for the first time. The company proved that the material could be renewed with a light wipe, and it is not easy to yellow and peel after long-term use. The texture of the top layer of calfskin is customized, which is more skin-friendly and not easy to slip and fall off.
Before this, we also learned that the Mi 13 series would increase the price by 15%-20%, and the starting price will be around 4,500 yuan ($626). So, we will see the outcome at the press conference if Lei Jun can “convince the executives” not to raise the price this time.
Apart from the Xiaomi Mi 13, the company will also uncover the new MIUI 14 system.
