Some smartphone manufacturers focused on gaming; others focused on fast charging. But there is a third group that focuses on imaging. VIVO is among them. Today, it hosted a conference introducing a new camera technology. Of course, the company didn’t develop it solely. The Chinese manufacturer has been working with MediaTek to bring this new imaging technology. We are talking about the second-gen VIVO V2 in-house-made imaging chip.

VIVO V2 imaging chip

Since 2021, VIVO has launched two generations of self-developed chips, V1 and V1+. In this regard, the new VIVO V2 chip comes with a new AI-ISP architecture. In effect, it comes with many improvements and new functionality. Moreover, now, the chip works much faster. The chip also has a near-memory DLA (VIVO self-developed AI deep learning accelerator) module. Plus, there is a large-capacity dedicated on-chip SRAM (high-speed and low-cost cache unit). So it can analyze the computing power capacity, computing power density, and data density. The standard NPUs adopt DDR external memory design. Compared to the latter, the theoretical maximum power consumption of SRAM data throughput can be reduced by 99.2%, and the energy efficiency ratio of the traditional NPU is improved by 200%.

VIVO X90 series specs

By the way, VIVO will debut the Dimensity 9200 processor, which is developed based on TSMC’s second-generation 4nm process technology. The Chinese company has been involved in the research and development of the Dimensity 9200 flagship platform at a very early stage. In effect, the chip on the upcoming VIVO phone scores over 1.28 million in AnTuTu.

We guess it’s the VIVO X90 series. But the latter will include at least three models. And the one we are talking about should be the vanilla version. There will also be a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model, namely the VIVO X90 Pro+. The latter should come with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX 989 wide-angle lens as the main camera. But there will also be a 48MP IMX598 ultra-wide-angle lens, a 50MP IMX758 portrait lens, and a 64MP OmniVision OV64B telephoto lens. The system will support 100x digital zoom.

Of course, this phone will also come with Zeiss support. The latter will add tons of imaging features, making the phone a real beast.
