Apple has officially launched its Vision Pro head-mounted display device in the U.S. market, priced at $3,499. Now available, it’s a product that has been eagerly anticipated by consumers. Recently, the well-known repair website iFixit shared a disassembly video of the Vision Pro, giving us a closer look at the internal structure of this high-priced headset. The disassembly process kicked off by focusing on the glass panel, a crucial component. iFixit invested significant time in carefully removing it. During this process, the protective plastic film on the glass partially detached, and the cost for external repair of this glass cover is a hefty $799.

The glass panel reveals a three-layer screen layout below, consisting of the widening layer, the lens layer, and the OLED display. Together, these screens form the foundation of Apple’s EyeSight function, a significant feature of the Vision Pro. The disassembly video includes X-ray pictures, providing a deeper insight into the internal structure of the Vision Pro. Upon initial use, the Vision Pro performs interpupillary distance adjustment, and Apple’s official retail store offers a machine to determine eye power. However, it’s worth noting that users with astigmatism may face challenges in obtaining suitable lenses.
As the teardown progresses, we uncover the R1 and M2 chips. The R1 chip, in particular, manages input from 12 cameras, LiDAR sensors, and TrueDepth cameras. Between the two sides of the main body are speakers, which users can effortlessly detach using SIM card pins. iFixit underscores the importance of readily replaceable speaker modules for wearable devices, given their susceptibility to damage.
In terms of weight, the Apple Vision Pro exceeds a kilogram, making it noticeably bulkier compared to the Quest Pro (722g) and the Quest 3 (515g). iFixit promises to unveil more details about the Vision Pro in the future.
