On February 2, Apple Vision Pro officially goes on sale in the United States. Priced at $3,499.
Featuring an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, this headset includes 16GB of RAM. Additionally, it is equipped with the new R1 chip, which efficiently manages 12 built-in cameras, 5 sensors, and 6 microphones, showcasing an impressive memory bandwidth of 256GB/s. It utilizes micro-OLED technology to accommodate 23 Megapixels across two small displays. Notably, these displays support a wide color gamut and HDR.
The official introduction highlights visionOS, featuring a novel 3D interface. This interface strives to portray digital content as though it belongs in the user’s tangible environment. Users can better perceive proportion and distance with the aid of alterations in natural light and shadow.
Apple Vision Pro enables users to interact with digital content actively. They control the system through their eyes, hands, and voice. As users browse apps, they can look at them, pinch to select, flick their wrist to scroll, or dictate input.
Beyond interaction, Apple Vision Pro features EyeSight to keep users connected to those around them. When someone approaches a user wearing the device, the viewing area becomes transparent. This allows the user to see the person, and approaching individuals can see the user’s eyes. Whether immersed in a spatial environment or using an app, EyeSight provides visual clues about the user’s focus.
In terms of storage options, Apple offers Vision Pro in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB versions, priced at $3,499, $3,699, and $3,899 respectively.
Concerns extend to out-of-warranty repair costs, which are notably expensive. Apple’s official website states that the out-of-warranty repair cost for the glass cover is US$799. Purchasing AppleCare+ service for US$499 can reduce the repair cost to US$299. While the glass cover repair is relatively low-cost, other part damages may reach up to $2,399 without AppleCare+ service. Therefore, obtaining AppleCare+ is crucial for this pricey head-mounted display device.
