BMW iX5 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Debuts in China

The 6th China International Import Expo (referred to as the CIIE) has opened, and BMW Group has been participating for six consecutive years, showcasing five new energy products. These products include the BMW iX5 hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the BMW electric flagship innovation BMW i7 M70L, the innovative BMW iX, the innovative BMW i4, and the limited edition innovative BMW XM Label Red.

It is worth noting that the BMW iX5 hydrogen fuel cell vehicle boasts a total output power of 295 kilowatts (401 horsepower) and a maximum WLTP range of 504 kilometers. The hydrogen tank can be filled in just 3-4 minutes. In 2023, BMW Group launched a pilot fleet of nearly 100 BMW iX5 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Just this October, this vehicle had its first trial in the Chinese market.

During the 2023 International Motor and Smart Mobility Expo in Germany, BMW Group’s Chairman, Zipse, revealed that BMW’s next-generation vehicles may also be compatible with hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems.

We foresee that hydrogen energy can have applications in personal transportation. Moreover, we believe that fuel cell and pure electric drive technologies can complement each other perfectly. In fact, Zipse stated, “Hydrogen energy is the missing piece in achieving emission-free travel.

Academician Ouyang Minggao of the Chinese Academy of Sciences predicted at the 2023 World Hydrogen Technology Conference that hydrogen energy could become a 10 trillion yuan industry in the future.
