Today, Xiaomi Group’s Wang Hua commemorated the birth of the 10 Years of Redmi mobile phone. In a remarkable press conference held at the Jinshan Building in Haidian, Beijing, the Redmi phone was unveiled. The event was so exceptional that even the projector was unused, adding to its uniqueness.
During the launch, only a limited number of media representatives were present. Mr. Lei and China Mobile executives proudly announced the release of the Redmi 1 on the spot. This momentous occasion set a new market record and propelled the advancement of the Chinese industrial chain, reshaped the perception of affordable smartphones in the country, and even bolstered the global smartphone market’s popularity.
The first generation Redmi phone was priced at 799 yuan(about $111), featuring dual-card dual-standby capability. Equipped with a MediaTek 6589T quad-core 1.5GHz processor and a 4.7-inch retina screen, it boasted a Samsung/OV 8-megapixel lens and a 2000mAh battery.
Although this configuration may seem outdated by today’s standards, it was an absolute game-changer nine years ago. The Redmi mobile phone played a pivotal role in ousting counterfeit phones from the competition, effectively eradicating the counterfeit market.
