Mercedes gearbox acting strange after service, did I mess up?
Quote from cecilrowan on October 22, 2026, 14:44So I'm kind of kicking myself right now. My 2014 E-Class was due for a transmission service and instead of going to the dealer I let a local garage near my office handle it because they promised the same work for half the price. Seemed reasonable at the time. But now about three weeks later the car is shifting harder than before, especially from second to third, and there's this slight hesitation when I accelerate from a stop. It doesn't feel broken exactly but it definitely doesn't feel like it did before the service. I called them back and they said give it time to adapt, which sounds like a convenient excuse honestly. I started reading around and came across https://gearboxrepairsharjah.ae/brands/mercedes which actually explained how sensitive these transmissions are to the right fluid and procedure, and now I'm wondering if they used the wrong stuff or skipped a step. Has anyone been in this situation? Did it settle down or did you end up needing a proper repair? I'm torn between waiting it out and paying someone who actually knows Mercedes gearboxes to take a look before any real damage happens. The car has 130k km and I really don't want to turn a service into a rebuild. Any advice from people who've dealt with this brand would be really helpful.
