Anyone else’s battery die right before a long weekend? Need advice
Quote from cecilrowan on October 13, 2026, 18:52Funny how these things always happen at the worst time. Friday morning I had everything packed for a family drive to Ras Al Khaimah, and my Nissan Sunny gave me nothing but a weak click. My neighbour got it going, but the dashboard lights were dim the whole way to the shop, so I knew it was the battery. The mechanic suggested something around 70Ah, and when I looked for an Affordable Varta 70Ah battery in the UAE online, the prices were all over the place. Some were cheap and some were almost double, and I could not tell why. My car is eight years old, with no fancy extras, just the radio and a phone charger, so I am wondering if I should pay for the better one or stay simple. Has anyone here gone with a mid range size like this and been happy with it? How many summers did it last? I also wonder about the warranty. Is one year normal, and do they really honour it if the battery fails in month eleven? And should I ask the shop to test my alternator too, in case that is the real problem and I waste money on a new battery? If you have been through this, please tell me what you paid and what you would do differently. Plain answers are best.
