The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 official specifications reveal a maximum clock speed of 3.30GHz for its single Cortex-X4 core. Qualcomm is actively developing a Samsung-specific variant, the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy,” with a slightly higher SoC clock than the default configuration. Despite this, rumors suggest that two versions are currently in testing, and obtaining the faster version depends on your geographical location. Not all users worldwide will have access to the same Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra model. Samsung’s flagship phone will exclusively feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, as there are no current plans to incorporate the Exynos 2400.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra With Snapdragon 8 Gen3 Cortex-X4 operates at 3.30GHz
Despite the “for Galaxy” branding, @TheGalox_alt mentioned on the X that there are two versions of the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy.” The first version’s Cortex-X4 operates at 3.30GHz, mirroring the regular version’s frequency.
In contrast, the overclocked Cortex-X4 in the second version runs at 3.40GHz, representing a slight improvement. These two “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy” variants will be available in three markets: B, N, and U. In this context, “U” designates the U.S. market, while “N” refers to Samsung’s home country, South Korea. The Galaxy S24 Ultra shipped to these two markets will utilize the 3.30GHz Cortex-X4.
As for the “B”, it’s for places like Europe, which suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, powered by a slightly overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, will likely be distributed to other regions around the world. Nevertheless, the 100MHz difference is relatively minor and hardly perceptible.
Moreover, depending on the efficiency of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s heat pipe radiator, the high-frequency Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may encounter throttling due to elevated temperatures, diminishing its initial advantage. Samsung’s practice of implementing different processor models across regions has always been intricate, especially from a supply chain perspective. However, this decision is beyond our control.
