Recently, Porsche made an official announcement regarding the achievement of a record-breaking lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Driver Lars Kern piloted a new pre-production Porsche Taycan, clocking in at 7 minutes, 07 seconds, and 55 seconds. This accomplishment surpassed the previous electric car champion, the Tesla Model S Plaid, by 18 seconds, and even outpaced the 2022 Taycan Turbo S by a substantial 26 seconds.

This landmark achievement cements the Porsche Taycan’s status as the fastest four-door car at Nürburgring. Remarkably, it surpasses numerous fuel-powered high-performance four-doors. For instance, it beats the Cayman GT4 RS, with a time of 7 minutes and 09 seconds, and the BMW M4 CSL, clocking in at 7 minutes and 18 seconds. It’s just 2 seconds shy of the Rimac Nevera. The Nevera holds the global record for the fastest electric car (non-production version).

“The individual in charge of the model series states, ‘In motorsports, 26 seconds is a huge margin. Furthermore, he highlights, ‘Lars’s 7 minutes and 07.55 seconds lap time on the New Nordschleife circuit is astounding. This performance puts the new Porsche Taycan on the same level as electric supercars.’ Impressively, he adds, ‘After several laps, Lars consistently clocked nearly identical times.’

Regrettably, Porsche officials have yet to disclose any details about this new model, including parameters or even the car’s name. Circulating reports suggest that the vehicle might bear the name Turbo GT and feature three motors with a maximum output of 1,000 horsepower, nearly matching the Tesla Model S Plaid’s 1,020 horsepower. Rumors also indicate the incorporation of an enhanced chassis and new carbon fiber aerodynamic components in the vehicle.
