Apple remains committed to supporting older iPhone and iPad models that are limited to iOS 16/iPadOS 16, as evidenced by its recent release of the iOS 16.7.4 and iPadOS 16.7.4 updates. These updates not only address security vulnerabilities but also rectify an issue with the installation of built-in applications.

Highlights of the iOS 16.7.4 Update:

iOS 16.7.4

Just a week after releasing the iOS 16.7.3 update for the iPhone, Apple has now rolled out the 16.7.4 update. This latest version specifically corrects an issue where pre-installed Apple apps cannot be reinstalled after being deleted.

So far, there haven’t been many reports about issues reinstalling pre-installed apps in iOS 16. This lack of widespread concern might be due to most users having already upgraded to iOS 17, leaving only those with older iPhone models on iOS 16 to potentially face this issue. Users experiencing difficulties reinstalling pre-installed applications can resolve this by updating to 16.7.4.

Additionally, this update addresses various security concerns, though the official details and CVE numbers for these vulnerabilities have not yet been disclosed.

Why Might You Not See This Update Prompt?

Apple is specifically targeting the iOS16.7.4 update on devices that are unable to upgrade to iOS 17. It’s not available for all devices still running an older version of iOS 16. The update prompt for 16.7.4 is currently available for the following iPhone models:
