The Tech_Reve reports that Apple plans to improve the main camera and ultra-wide-angle camera in the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro. They will replace the current 12MP 1.4μm sensor with a 48-megapixel 1.22μm stacked sensor (CIS) to enhance the imaging dynamic range. At the same time, they also increased the pixel count of the iPhone 16 Pro ultra-wide-angle camera to 48MP.
This upgrade strategy underscores Apple’s ongoing commitment and investment in advancing mobile phone camera technology. Manufacturers anticipate that incorporating stacked sensors will improve image quality, expand the dynamic range, and offer consumers a more enhanced photography experience.
The current iPhone 15 Pro phone uses a standard 12MP 1.4μm sensor, and switching to a stacked sensor can expand the imaging dynamic range. Moreover, Tech_Reve has indicated that Apple also plans to elevate the pixel count for the main camera and telephoto lens in the iPhone 17 Pro. Specifically, Apple aims to have a 1/1.14-inch 48-megapixel 1.4μm sensor module for the main camera and has telephoto lens pixels to 48MP.
