The iPhone 15 Pro series has a powerful 3A capability for gaming performance. This reflects Apple’s keen interest in transforming the mobile phone market into a new gaming arena. Previous tests showcased the model’s proficiency in running 3A-level games like “Resident Evil Village,” generating high expectations for Apple’s foray into the gaming realm. However, the upcoming release of “Resident Evil 4: Remake” for iPhone appears to dampen these expectations. Tests reveal that the game struggles to perform well on the iPhone 15 Pro.

MrMacRight, a blogger, recently uploaded a video assessing the performance of “Resident Evil 4: Remastered” on the iPhone 15 Pro, M1 iPad, and M2 iPad. The findings indicate less-than-optimistic performance from the iPhone 15 Pro. MetalFX sharpening technology was enabled as the game underwent testing at a resolution of 1560×720. Despite capping the iOS frame rate at 30FPS, the iPhone 15 Pro consistently falls short of this benchmark.

In simpler scenes, the frame rate remains relatively stable and can approach 30FPS. However, during battles or more intense scenes, the frame rate experiences significant drops. It falls below 25FPS, sometimes as low as 20FPS, accompanied by severe screen freezes. This significantly hampers the gaming experience, particularly when aiming with a sniper rifle.

In contrast to “Resident Evil Village,” recently launched on the iPhone, the iOS version of “Resident Evil 4: Remake” utilizes default image quality and lacks support for custom settings. Although Apple previously emphasized promoting the new chip’s ray-tracing capabilities. The highly anticipated ray tracing feature is conspicuously absent, though the company retains certain options such as motion blur and lens distortion.

One major contributing factor to the poor performance is likely thermal issues with the iPhone. Throughout the test, the phone’s temperature rapidly increased, leading to frequency reduction and speed limits, exacerbating the lagging issues.
