Today, the blogger @数码闲聊站 revealed that they have codenamed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor as “SUN” and utilized TSMC’s 3nm process. The CPU features a 2Phoenix L+6Phoenix M architecture, demonstrating a significant improvement in the performance of their current self-developed CPU design.

During the Qualcomm Summit in October this year, Qualcomm introduced its latest flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, featuring a CPU core based on ARM architecture. Notably, Qualcomm disclosed that its upcoming 2024 chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen4, will integrate the Oryon CPU core developed independently by Qualcomm.

Chris Patrick, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President, emphasized that customizing the CPU core does not necessarily translate to higher costs but enables Qualcomm to strike a distinct balance among pricing, power consumption, and performance. However, he acknowledged the possibility of an increased cost for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as Qualcomm strives to achieve “remarkable performance levels.”

Insider @Revegnus hinted that the Snapdragon 8 Gen4, slated for release next year, will also feature the new Adreno 830 GPU. Although detailed specifications were not provided, preliminary benchmark scores from 3DMark Wild Life Extreme indicate that the graphics score for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is approximately 7200 points, marking a 10% improvement compared to the Apple M2 (Note: The Mac Mini 2023, equipped with the M2 chip, achieves scores around 6800~6925 points).
