The Avast virus detection engine in Huawei’s global smartphones falsely flags Google applications as malware due to its misidentification. On the afternoon of October 30th at 3:30, Avast released an update to its virus database. After mobile devices update the virus database (either automatically within 24 hours or manually), this issue can be resolved. It’s worth noting that this problem does not affect Chinese users since they use a different virus detection engine, not Avast.

Over the past week, numerous Huawei/Honor smartphone users have reported in the community that their phones are identifying Google applications as the “TrojanSMS-PA” Trojan virus. This “malicious software” can send text messages without user consent. Multiple phone models, such as the Huawei P10, Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei P40 Pro, Huawei Mate 20 X, Huawei Nova 5T, Honor Magic 5 Lite, and others, in various languages, face the impact.

Subsequently, the Google community has summarized two solutions. The first one involves disabling Google applications, deleting all their updates, and then reinstalling them. The second method is to clear the cache and data of the Phone Manager application, and then update the virus database and applications.
