Mercedes-Benz recently released its third-quarter financial report for 2023, disclosing that the company’s operating revenue was €37.2 billion at current exchange rates), reflecting a 1.4% year-on-year decrease. Additionally, the net profit amounted to €3.719 billion, marking a 7.0% year-on-year decline.
Transitioning to the details of the financial report, the third quarter of this year saw a global sales volume for Mercedes-Benz of 510,600 vehicles, a 4% decline compared to the previous year. Notably, Mercedes-Benz’s new energy products, encompassing pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, constituted 20% of the total sales volume. Looking at the cumulative global sales for the first nine months of the year, Mercedes-Benz reached 1,529,800 vehicles, reflecting a 2% year-on-year increase.
The report also indicated that Mercedes-Maybach and G-Class vehicles maintained stable sales performance in the high-end market. In the third quarter, the return on sales (RoS) for Mercedes-Benz cars was 12.4%, down from 14.5% last year. Meanwhile, the RoS for Mercedes-Benz vans increased to 15.0% from 12.7% in the previous year.
In a financial report meeting, Harald Wilhelm, the CFO of Mercedes-Benz, mentioned that the automotive market is facing lower demand and intense price competition, particularly in the electric vehicle segment. In addition to these challenges, the company is grappling with inflation, supply chain issues, and currency exchange losses.
He further stated, “Despite a challenging environment, Mercedes-Benz Group has delivered robust performance. Thanks to exceptional products and a well-thought-out market strategy, we continue to demonstrate resilience. While remaining cautious about the macroeconomic outlook, we confirm our full-year financial objectives for 2023.”
Mercedes-Benz expects 2023 sales to match last year’s. They also predict a pre-tax profit of €20.5 billion, the same as in 2022. This is based on the company’s forecasts.
