Microsoft Xbox has officially unveiled its participation plans for TGS 2023, the Tokyo Game Show this year. On September 21, at 17:00 Beijing time, Microsoft will host a live online broadcast event, where they will provide players with the latest updates on Xbox and Bethesda Game Studios. Additionally, being an Asian game exhibition, Microsoft will place a special focus on showcasing the creative and diverse games crafted by Japanese and Asian creators.
Furthermore, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote its subscription service, Microsoft will introduce a selection of upcoming games for Xbox Game Pass during this live broadcast. It’s worth noting that this lineup includes numerous outstanding titles developed by Asian game development teams. To ensure accessibility, the live event will feature subtitles in multiple languages, including Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Malay, Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, French, German, Castilian Spanish, and Korean.
In their commitment to engaging with the Japanese audience, Microsoft announced that it will feature a distinctive Japanese-style main visual for each Tokyo Game Show appearance. This year, Microsoft has incorporated cultural symbols from both Xbox and Japan into their visuals, including lucky cats, Mount Fuji, cosmos, and Japanese lanterns. The hope is that the Lucky Cat will bring good fortune to players.
Although Microsoft has faced challenges in gaining a foothold in the Japanese game market, particularly with its Xbox console consistently trailing in sales, the introduction of Xbox Game Pass has seen a steady increase in Microsoft’s Xbox user base in Japan. Simultaneously, Microsoft’s efforts to foster strong relationships with Japanese game developers have played a pivotal role in expanding the content offerings of Xbox Game Pass and growing its presence in the Asian market.
