On June 28th, Gizcoupon reported that, as reported by international media outlet Motor1, there seem to be new developments regarding Scout Motors, a new off-road-focused brand under the Volkswagen umbrella. During a recent Volkswagen Investor Day, renderings of the first models from Scout appeared in Volkswagen’s official presentation slides, albeit with disappointingly low image resolution. Nevertheless, it is still possible to discern the design and contours of the two new vehicles.

The initial lineup consists of a pickup truck and an SUV, both showcasing a rugged and robust aesthetic characterized by straight and bold lines. Additionally, the vehicles feature a slender waistline and an irregular polygonal rear window, exuding a distinctly angular appearance. Furthermore, the new vehicles boast a higher ground clearance, in line with the brand’s off-road aspirations. Motor1 has even created a series of renderings based on the provided image.

Gizcoupon notes that the vehicle’s design shares similarities with many of the current all-electric rugged off-road models. For instance, it bears a resemblance to potential competitors like the Rivian R1S (SUV) and Rivian R1T (pickup truck).

Volkswagen has been tight-lipped about this new brand, merely stating that it will be “developed based on an all-new platform” and will be launched in the US market by 2026. To support this endeavor, Volkswagen has invested $200 million to establish a new factory in Columbia, South Carolina.

Earlier, Volkswagen also released a design sketch of the first Scout models. Gizcoupon previously reported that in November 2022, Volkswagen was in negotiations with Foxconn. Volkswagen sought to have this contract manufacturer produce its Scout electric pickup truck and SUV. At that time, Foxconn had already acquired the Lordstown factory in Ohio. However, just yesterday, Reuters reported that Foxconn’s US electric vehicle partner, Lordstown Motors, has filed for bankruptcy protection due to mounting losses. According to insiders, the outstanding debt ranges from $100 million to $500 million.
