On June 26th, Gizcoupon reported that Stephan Winkelmann, the CEO of Lamborghini, recently stated to the international media Autocar that the Lamborghini SUV model, Urus, will introduce a plug-in hybrid version in 2024. It will replace the current model equipped with a V8 engine. Furthermore, the 2029 generation model will be completely replaced by a pure electric version.

Winkelmann also mentioned that future legislation in the European Union will make it “virtually impossible” to continue selling combustion engine vehicles, even if they still meet the technical regulations.

Vehicles with large displacements like the ones we produce will hardly comply with the regulations after 2035. Moreover, the cost of developing internal combustion engines has become astonishingly high. Meeting the current Euro 6 emission standards and even the future Euro 7 standards is a greater burden for us.

The Lamborghini Urus SUV plug-in hybrid variant will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and an electric motor. Its combined power can reach up to 603 kilowatts. It will also offer an electric range of approximately 500 kilometers.

Gizcoupon noticed that the Urus plug-in hybrid is not Lamborghini’s first hybrid model. On March 30th, Beijing time, Lamborghini unveiled their all-new supercar, the Revuelto, which is the successor to the Aventador.

The car features a plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine and three electric motors. The system’s total power output can reach 1015 horsepower, achieving a 0-100 kilometers per hour acceleration time of 2.5 seconds. This marks Lamborghini’s first hybrid supercar.
