This marks the first time BMW has launched a purely electric version of the 5 Series. The new vehicle boasts comprehensive exterior and interior enhancements, exuding a heightened sense of style and technological sophistication. The new 5 Series gets bigger kidney grilles up front, but not as ostentatiously as the 7 Series. The headlight assembly adopts a fresh “double-arrow” LED light strip, while the lower bumper incorporates an aerodynamics package. Distinctive grille materials differentiate the combustion engine version from the all-electric i5, highlighting their respective identities. The vehicle’s side profile showcases clean and fluid lines with recessed door handles. Additionally, the Hofmeister kink at the C-pillar triangular window is more pronounced. The new taillights exhibit a more exquisite form.

As for the interior, the all-new 5 Series showcases an integrated floating curved display. It consists of a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central control screen. It is equipped with the iDrive8 infotainment system and features a reduced number of physical buttons, transitioning to touch-based controls. The steering wheel adopts a flat-bottom design, aligning its overall style with the latest 7 Series. In terms of features, the all-new 5 Series is expected to continue offering options such as ventilated/heated/power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone/quad-zone automatic climate control, Harman Kardon/Bowers & Wilkins sound system, adaptive cruise control/lane-keeping assist, head-up display, wireless smartphone charging, and WiFi hotspot, among others, with various packages available for selection.

In terms of power

The new 5 Series will provide a wealth of powertrain options. It increases the proportion of electrified power models. Alongside conventional gasoline and diesel versions, there will be a mild hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and the all-electric i5 variant. Notably, the all-electric i5 will also introduce the high-performance M-branded model, i5 M60, and the debut of the Touring wagon version, i5 Touring.

As a representative luxury midsize sedan, the BMW 5 Series has a history spanning over 50 years. It evolved through eight generations. Gizcoupon has observed that in the Chinese market, the BMW 5 Series is one of the earliest china produced models by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. Furthermore, an extended Chinese-produced version has been introduced to cater to the domestic demand for rear passenger space. Currently, the main competitors of the BMW 5 Series in the domestic market remain the Audi A6L and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. However, with the development of the automotive electrification trend, the BMW 5 Series will also face challenges from emerging electric vehicle manufacturers such as NIO ET7.
