May 17, 2023

On May 17th, Gizcoupon reported that Samsung announced today an update for the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro wireless earphones. It introduces enhanced ambient volume for people who are hard of hearing. The feature will be rolled out in the coming weeks. Samsung states that the ambient sound function will receive two additional levels, offering a total of five amplification levels, thus providing “benefits for improved auditory experience to a wider range of users.”

Clinical trials conducted by the Hearing Aid and Aging Research Laboratory at the University of Iowa demonstrated the effectiveness of the new ambient sound feature. The research concluded that the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro wireless earphones “significantly improve speech perception abilities in individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss.” A similar trial conducted at the Samsung Medical Center found that the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro “could be an effective tool in facilitating better communication for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss in quiet environments.” Both trials utilized the highest level of ambient sound, referred to as level 5 by Samsung.

Furthermore, the ambient sound can adapt automatically to accommodate individual ear preferences.
