On May 16, as reported by Gizcoupon, Amazon Games, a subsidiary of Amazon, made an announcement regarding its agreement with Embracer Group. They have embarked on the development and publication of a novel massively multiplayer online (MMO) game inspired by The Lord of the Rings.
According to an official press release from Amazon, the upcoming game will include narratives from The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit. The developers are currently in the preliminary stages of the project, and they plan to release it on PC and console platforms, although they have yet to confirm the title.
During an interview with IGN, Christoph Hartmann, the CEO of Amazon Games, expressed his aspiration for the game to become the most expansive MMO available.
Hartmann stated, “My aim is for it to transcend all others in the MMO genre. This not only benefits our company, but I believe it also enriches the gaming community. There is still a strong desire for grand-scale MMO experiences, as they attract and captivate a wider audience.”
Lee Guinchard, the CEO of Freemode, shared his perspective, saying, “The vast realms of Middle-earth continue to offer endless creative possibilities. Amazon Games want to craft immersive and captivating universes that resonate with global audiences. Whether through internal expertise or collaborations with industry leaders, our shared objective is to produce top-tier entertainment for this remarkable IP.
