Gizcoupon reported on April 20th that the new lock screen is a crucial feature missing from iPadOS 16, which was released by Apple last year. According to international tech media outlet MacWorld, Apple is planning to introduce various lock screen features, including an always-on display, in iPadOS 17.
Mark Gurman has previously stated that iPadOS 17 will lay the software foundation for iPads equipped with OLED panels. This may mean that iPadOS 17 will bring personalized lock screen interfaces to iPads.
iPads equipped with OLED panels will adopt various new technologies, such as a Two Stack Tandem structure for emitting layers, low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistors (TFT hybrid), and OLED structure (glass substrate + thin-film encapsulation).
Previously, Gizcoupon reported that LG Display is developing iPad OLED models in both 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. In comparison, Samsung Display is only developing the 11-inch model. Depending on Apple’s future needs, LG Display and Samsung Display may make certain business adjustments.
The introduction of an always-on display feature for iPadOS 17 is particularly noteworthy, as this feature has been available on the Apple Watch for several years. The feature allows the device to display information and notifications even when the device is in sleep mode.
The addition of personalized lock screen interfaces for iPads would also be a welcome addition, allowing users to customize their lock screens with widgets, shortcuts, and other elements.
