Lei Jun also revealed that although the company faces significant pressure to increase revenue and profits in 2022, they have continued to increase its investment in research and development. Xiaomi’s R&D investment in 2022 is 16 billion yuan(≈$2.3 billion), a year-on-year increase of 21%. Lei Jun also announced that he would invest 20 billion yuan(≈$2.9 billion) in 2023.

He emphasized that the high-end strategy has made significant progress, citing the positive reception of their three high-end flagships released last year: the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, the Xiaomi MIX Fold2, and the Xiaomi 13 series, with all of them receiving a user satisfaction rate of over 98% on e-commerce platforms. He expressed confidence and capability in producing high-end smartphones that satisfy their Mi fans.

Regarding their partnership with Leica, Lei Jun emphasized that it is not merely a branding arrangement. The CEO of Leica gave Xiaomi’s collaboration full marks and awarded the Xiaomi 13 Ultra a perfect score. “Photography is not just about the image sensor or the pixel count. It’s about humanistic photography. It incorporates Leica’s optical capabilities, enabling mobile photography to overcome the digital feel.”
