Recently, Roland Quandt said that Qualcomm had internally used a 10-inch screen device to test the Snapdragon 8cx Gen4. This may mean that Qualcomm will use the Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 to create a batch of Surface Neo products.
Qualcomm has been testing the new Gen4 with a development device with a 10-inch screen since November 2022. As various sources claim, under normal circumstances, the form factor of the display screen used by Qualcomm in the development process roughly corresponds to the form factor of the future finished product. This may mean that Qualcomm intends to use the Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 processor for small-screen notebooks or 2-in-1 devices, such as the Surface Neo.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 characteristics
By the way, the Gen4 will have a 12-core architecture. The latter will include 8 performance cores as well as 4 energy efficiency cores. The performance core is about 3.4GHz, and the performance core is about 2.5GHz.
In other aspects, this chip supports up to 64GB of LPDDR5x memory, and the integrated GPU is Adreno 740, the same as the GPU in Snapdragon 8 Gen2. This graphics card provides DirectX 12, Vulkan 1.3, OpenCL, and DirectML support. The processor is connected to an independent GPU through 8 PCIe 4.0 lanes and also supports PCIe 4.0 SSD and UFS 4.0 flash memory.
As for the wireless network, it supports Wi-Fi 7. In terms of IO, the chip supports two USB 3.1 10Gbps ports and three USB 4 (Thunderbolt 4) ports that support DisplayPort 1.4a. In addition, the display output of the chip has become much better. Now, the chip can output reaches up to 5K+4K+4K resolution at the same time.
All these parameters break the myth as the Snapdragon 8cx chips fall behind the Intel and AMD chips.
