A couple of days ago, Xiaomi released its first mini PC, called the Xiaomi Mini Host. It is a palm-sized product that is capable of providing performance comparable to a desktop computer. The initial price is 3,699 yuan ($532).
Externally, the Xiaomi Mini Host looks like the Intel NUC mini host. Yesterday, Intel congratulated the successful release of Xiaomi’s mini console. They wrote: “Congratulations on the successful launch of the Xiaomi Mini Host. Over the past few months, the two teams have carried out more in-depth co-creation of the product based on the Intel NUC solution, polished the antenna communication capability, performance adjustment, noise performance, and heat generation of the product, and finally achieved a good balance between performance and power consumption. We look forward to the cooperation between the two parties to bring more diversified choices to consumers so that more consumers can get in touch with and love mini desktop host products.”
By the way, the Intel NUC (12th generation Core i5-1240P, 16GB memory, 500GB hard drive) costs almost identically, 3999 yuan ($575).
Xiaomi Mini Host selling points
The body of the Xiaomi Mini Host is only 0.444L in size. This palm-sized product weighs only 437g. The dimensions are 112*112*38mm. Compared with the traditional 15L office mainframe, its volume is only one-thirtieth of its volume. Also, it takes up almost no space on the desktop. It is very suitable for home, office, and other applications. The body adopts CNC integrated fine carving process, which is only used in high-end notebook products. It is currently the smallest mainstream performance desktop host.
However, having a stylish look and being pleasant to touch is quite different from having enough power inside. But the Xiaomi Mini Host has both. Under the hood, the product uses the 12th generation Core i5-1240P processor. It adopts a 12-core and 16-thread heterogeneous design, and the maximum turbo frequency can reach 4.4GHz. In other words, you can use this mini PC for any purpose, including daily office tasks, online games, and entertainment.
At the same time, the mini PC comes with 16GB DDR4 3200MHz dual-channel memory and 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD. Plus, it has a replaceable design. So users can expand memory and SSD capacity by themselves. Interestingly, there is also a second M.2 expansion interface.
The Xiaomi Mini Host adopts a large-diameter fan + dual heat pipe heat dissipation structure. The full-load speed of the fan is as high as 4600rpm. The area of the copper heat dissipation fins is as high as 44753mm². Due to such parameters and the metal body, it can achieve efficient heat dissipation. The actual measurement can stabilize the 40W performance of the whole machine, and it can run stably for 7×24 hours.
Another advantage of the Xiaomi Mini Host is that it carries a Grand Slam interface, built-in dual Thunderbolt 4 interfaces, and can be used with high-speed devices such as independent graphics cards and hard disk docks.
In addition, its wired network port supports 2.5G transmission, and the product supports Wi-Fi 6 high-speed wireless network card. Lastly, Bluetooth 5.3 allows it to meet the needs of various users.
