Many think that Nintendo is the only manufacturer of handheld game controllers. It’s the most popular maker of such products but not the only one. Moreover, when looking attentively, you will find more than a dozen companies that specialize in making such products for gamers. For instance, today, Retroid launched a new product in this category. The Retroid Pocket 3+ is a brand-new handheld gamer controller. As the name suggests, it is an upgraded version of the previously launched Retroid Pocket 3. We will still get acquainted with its key features. But the most surprising thing is that it uses a Chinese chip. Thus, China is gradually freeing itself from the other chip makers.
Retroid Pocket 3+ specs and price
The new game controller comes with the UNISOC T618 processor. The latter adopts a 12nm process technology and consists of two 2.0GHz Arm Cortex-A75 cores and six 2.0GHz Arm Cortex-A55 cores. This chip integrates the ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU.
Apart from a new processor, the handheld game controller has a larger memory of 4GB and 128GB of storage space. All these features will provide a much smoother performance, not allowing any game to run out of memory.
However, we should mention that there is a concrete reason for choosing this chip. The Retroid Pocket 3+ is positioned to run retro games. For handhelds mainly aimed at old games, the performance of the T618 is more than satisfactory. So it will improve user experience a lot.
Our protagonist features 2W stereo speakers, 720p video output via HDMI, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The machine comes with a 4500mAh battery and has a fanless design. The appearance of the Pocket 3+ has not changed. We mean it still adopts the Nintendo Switch Lite design style. The button positions are the same.
Retroid Pocket 3+ is available only in the international market for $149. It comes in eight different color options.
