Only Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Will Use Glass Back Cover

Flagship phones have a glass panel on the back. Prior to this, their rear panels were using metal panels. And only a few of them use ceramics. Anyway, both glass and ceramics make the phone priced higher. And currently, when almost all components’ prices were increased, the manufacturers are trying to somehow lower the prices. Say, recently, a whistleblower revealed the screen size of Samsung’s flagship smartphone that is going to hit the market in 2022. Among them, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ are smaller than the current S21 series of smartphones.

Today, a South Korean whistleblower said that only the Galaxy S22 Ultra model uses a glass back cover. The back covers of the S22 and S22+ will use a brand-new processing technology. But they are made of plastic instead of glass.

The news is currently unconfirmed and is for reference only. But combined with the shrinking of the appearance and specifications of the S22 and S22+ phones, we see that Samsung is trying to open the gap between the Ultra version of the flagship model and the standard version.

The Galaxy S21 phones currently on sale by Samsung use a plastic back cover, while the S21+ and S21 Ultra are equipped with the same Corning Gorilla Victus glass as the phone screen.

The use of a plastic back cover can reduce costs and encourage users who were originally inclined to buy the S22+ to buy the S22 Ultra.

We guess other manufacturers will behave identically.
