In the 2015 version, a large extension of 4G networks, vivo launched the Y37 model. The VIVO Y37 was unique: it had excellent sound quality, dual speakers, and Hi-Fi chips, which earned it a nickname: “Little Prince of External Speakers.”
Fast-forward to 2024; with 5G technology now sweeping the country, VIVO has launched a new Y37, fully revitalized with the latest low-power 5G processor, 12GB of RAM, and a 5000mAh high-capacity battery. This would have been quite the leap from the original device.
VIVO Y37 Key Features
The VIVO Y37 features a Dimensity 6300, which integrates Cortex-A76 and A55 cores in its 6 nm low-power 5G chip. Such a combination provides outstanding performance while prolonging the battery life. Additionally, the 5000mAh battery, paired with a power-saving HD display, provides the Y37 with a standby time of up to 14.6 days, according to official data.
The VIVO Y37 comes with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, ensuring smooth performance for photography, video recording, and high-definition movie downloads. With Memory Fusion 2.0, the Y37 expands its original 12GB of RAM to an equivalent of 20GB (12GB+8GB). It greatly improves the running speed of apps and enhances multitasking capabilities, allowing it to run smoothly with many resource-consuming applications open in the background.
All kinds of environmental challenges that may confront the user were put into consideration with the vivo Y37. With regard to water resistance, VIVO has equipped this Y37 model with IP54-rated waterproof protection so that it can bear a certain amount of splashing and rain in daily use and remain very stable in different environments.
This enhances the feature considerably and significantly reduces the occurrence of water damage, which will help people to be at peace while away running their daily errands.
Appearance
VIVO Y37 has a waterdrop screen and advanced surface transfer technology at the back panel, making it look like a star, which seems astounding. The finish of the overall back portion is also very fine to the touch.
Available in three colors: Far Mountain Green, Diamond Light Purple, and Moon Shadow Black, the model that Kuai Technology uses is Far Mountain Green. The back panel of the Y37 was finely frosted to give a simple and elegant look with varying textures which can be seen from different angles to enhance its tactility.
The rear camera module of the telephone is mounted on a mirrored gimbal. At the top lies the main camera. Just below the main lens lies an anti-flicker sensor, while the monochrome temperature LED fill light rests on the right side of the camera module. Everything is aligned vertically on the left side of the back panel.
Upfront, the VIVO Y37 features a 6.56-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1612 x 720, a contrast ratio of 1500:1, and could go as high as 90Hz, with touch sampling rates of 180Hz. The front camera, contained within the tiny waterdrop-style notch, would come with an equal resolution of 5 megapixels.
At the top, it has a speaker; at the bottom, there’s a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which it touts as “alien technology.” Next to it lies the Type-C charging port and the microphone. On the right side of the phone is the power button with integrated fingerprint recognition and volume controls.
The VIVO Y37 is ready to handle up to 15W wired fast charging from the box with the matching 15W charging kit.
Charging and Battery Life
One of the salient features of the vivo Y37 is its superb battery life. For a smartphone weighing 185g, it packs in a rather large 5000mAh battery, which supports up to 15W wired fast charging. Of course, both charging speed and battery life were tested.
Charging Test
In the charging test, it was checked from a 5% battery. It reached a charge of 27% in 30 minutes and hit 49% past the 60-minute mark. After 90 minutes, the battery reached 71%, and after 120 minutes, it hit 93%. The phone fully charged in 128 minutes, just a bit over two hours. Given its screen and performance, the charging time is quite reasonable—making it ideal for overnight charging.
Battery Life Test
Fast Technology developed a professional testing tool, Battery Dog, to run Y37 through its paces for the battery life test. The conditions set for testing were standardized at a screen brightness of 50%, with automatic brightness off and volume at 30%. This had extensive testing based on task examples that imitate usage in real life.
The test showed that VIVO Y37 could hold up to 11 hours, 20 minutes, and 28 seconds before the battery dropped from 100% to 20%. That is almost 13 hours of total battery life, which for a 5G device at this price tag is just brilliant.
With an endowment of such long battery life, the vivo Y37 is the best choice when one wants the phone to last all day. In light and intermittent use, like by elderly users, the phone could easily last two days on a single charge.
Performance and Gaming
The vivo Y37 runs on the Dimensity 6300 processor, which comes with a process technology of 6nm and an 8-core CPU architecture: 2×2.4GHz Cortex-A76 high-performance cores and 6×2.0GHz Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. This chipset is paired with up to 12GB LPDDR4X 2133MHz memory and 256GB eMMC 5.1 flash storage. This unit tested here comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Theoretical Performance Test
First of all, we tested the theoretical performance of Y37 with the AnTuTu benchmark. The processor Dimensity 6300 reached a total score of more than 406,000 points, posting 140,918 for the CPU and 68,530 for the GPU. It can stand at the level of some Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G in all-around capability.
In the GeekBench 6 CPU test, the vivo Y37 reached a single-core score of 604 and a multi-core score of 1608. The Androbench storage test brought continuous read speed to 278.22MB/s, continuous write speed to 166.86MB/s, random read speed to 60.23MB/s, and random write speed to 43.37MB/s, which corresponds to an entry-level eMMC 5.1 flash memory.
Game Performance Test
Next, the VIVO Y37’s gaming performance is tested using three popular mobile games: Honor of Kings and Call of Duty. The tests take place in an office environment at 26°C, with the phone set to high-performance mode and memory expansion turned off.
1. Honor of Kings
The VIVO Y37 was easy on Honor of Kings: it ran at a stable 60FPS under high-definition settings. The average frame rate was 59.83FPS in a 15-minute 5V5 match—basically a perfect frame rate curve throughout. The Dimensity 6300 chip was fully capable of smoothly running this light-load game. The peak temperature reached at the back of the phone in a test right after the game was 41.6°C, with the hottest area near the camera.
2. Call of Duty
We also tested Call of Duty with high frame rates enabled under standard picture quality. It ran at 60FPS, with the average frame rate being 58.62FPS, which means it was very close to full frames. The temperature on the back reached up to 42.1°C after the session.
In general, the VIVO Y37 rings in rather respectable gaming performance—ordinary mobile games can run without a hitch on this device with minimal thermal throttling. This positions it as one of the top choices in its price segment.
Camera
The VIVO Y37 comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera that features an f/2.2 aperture and 2x zoom capability. An anti-flicker sensor effectively eliminates flicker stripes when photographing monitors, screens, and similar devices.
Even with a resolution support of only 13 megapixels, the Y37 delivers a high color saturation and an impressive level of detail. Still, under cloudy daylight, the photos taken with the Y37’s main camera seem bright and clear; they are not too dark at all. The camera performs well in vivid coloring, such as rendering the blue sky even bluer to enhance the pictures.
This makes the Y37 a reliable everyday photography solution, as it will help capture layers of details and rich colors under less-than-ideal lighting.
