Blogger @数码闲聊站 revealed today some details about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, expected to be featured in the upcoming Xiaomi 15 series. The blogger mentioned that the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 device is undergoing testing for a domestically produced single-point ultrasonic fingerprint unlock. The internal product progress is ahead of schedule, and the strategy of the dual-size curved screen remains unchanged.
Moreover, it’s worth noting that the blogger previously leaked information about the good progress in the internal testing of the Xiaomi Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The performance of this fully self-developed architecture chip from Qualcomm has significantly improved. The dual-curved flagship may enter the mass production stage as early as September, addressing both weaknesses and enhancing strengths in core configurations. Xiaomi launched the 14 series on October 26, 2023, for reference.
In addition, the Xiaomi 15 series is currently undergoing testing for ultrasonic fingerprint unlock, which is another aspect worth paying attention to. There are two types of ultrasonic detection methods for phone fingerprint recognition: wide-area ultrasonic and single-point ultrasonic. These methods differ in the size of the transmission range and sensitivity.
Wide-area ultrasonic involves sending ultrasonic waves from multiple locations, completing fingerprint detection based on the reflected wavelength. Its transmission range is broader, and its sensitivity is higher. On the other hand, single-point ultrasonic involves detecting fingerprints by sending ultrasonic waves from a single point, with the transmission range limited to the vicinity of that specific point.
Anticipated to deliver a more advanced experience than short-range and optical fingerprint unlocking methods is the wide-area or single-point ultrasonic fingerprint unlock.
