The GitHub repository now hosts the kernel source code for Xiaomi 14 series, comprising both Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro. The submission logs reveal that KERNEL.PLATFORM.3.0.r1-03200-kernel.0-1 identifies Android U, forming the basis for the AOSP iteration.
The Android operating system, being Linux-based and operating under GPLv2 licensing, necessitates the release of the source code for derivative works to comply with the GPL agreement. Xiaomi initiated the practice of open-sourcing kernel source code for new models in 2018, typically accomplishing this within three months of a model’s launch. Commencing with the Xiaomi 9 series in 2019, Xiaomi adopted a policy of simultaneous release of the source code alongside the launch of new devices.
As a result, Xiaomi has consistently unveiled the source code for the 9 series on either the release day or the following day. However, this time around, Xiaomi has delayed the release of the source code for the 14 series models by over a month, departing from the usual trend.
The Xiaomi 14/Pro comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 platform of the third generation. It features LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 flash memory, along with a custom Light Hunter 900 image sensor. The Xiaomi 14 Pro utilizes a USB 3.2 Gen1 interface and supports additional features such as Wi-Fi 7. The respective starting prices are 3999 Yuan (about $559) and 4999 Yuan (about $699).
