Xiaomi has officially released the Xiaomi 14, and besides hardware upgrades, Lei Jun also announced a significant feature, storage expansion. Xiaomi has expanded the storage chip capacity from 256GB to 264GB (256GB+8GB) and from 512GB to 528GB (512GB+16GB). For Xiaomi 14 Pro users who purchased the 256GB version, they can gain an additional 8GB of space. As for Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro users who bought the 512GB version, they can obtain an extra 16GB of space.
Zhang Guoquan, the Director of Xiaomi’s Mobile System Software Division, provided an explanation of this feature. He stated that the “UltraSpace storage expansion” feature poses no risk to the UFS (Universal Flash Storage) lifespan and is not supported on older device models. Furthermore, Xiaomi has contributed this standard to the UFS Association and requested chip manufacturers to implement a certain protection period. In the near future, major smartphone manufacturers are expected to adapt to this feature.
Xiaomi 14 has undergone numerous improvements in terms of hardware upgrades, including the processor and camera. The introduction of the storage expansion feature undoubtedly brings greater convenience and flexibility to users.
