Xiaomi founder Lei Jun has unveiled a specific design detail of the Xiaomi 14 series, featuring a completely hole-free top. Lei Jun explained that the engineering team concealed the infrared sensor in the back camera area and transformed the speaker opening into a micro-slit hidden design. They also tucked the top microphone into the earpiece area.
Xiaomi enthusiasts have given their approval, saying, “This design is incredibly clever, and the square frame looks very neat. The Xiaomi 14 adopts a classic vertical edge design with a 6.36-inch screen size. The bezels on three sides measure only 1.61mm, while the chin has been further reduced to 1.71mm, making it narrower than the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, providing a better visual experience.
Moreover, Xiaomi and Leica jointly developed the Leica optical Summilux lens for the Xiaomi 14, representing a breakthrough in extreme optical miniaturization. The Xiaomi 14 has an exceptionally large sensor size of 1/1.31 inches, with individual pixels combined to reach 2.4μm from 1.2μm, thanks to the four-in-one pixel technology. It comes with the all-new dual native ISO Fusion Max technology, enabling native ultra-high dynamic range.
Lei Jun emphasized that the flagship optical system of the Xiaomi 14 makes capturing light the foundation and controlling light the possibility, marking a pivotal moment in the era of mobile imaging optics. Lei Jun stated, “Our engineering team concealed the infrared functionality within the rear camera area, changed the speaker opening to a micro-slit hidden design, and tucked the top microphone into the receiver area. This design is quite intricate.”
