ROG Z1 vs Z1 Extreme: A Head-to-Head Comparison

In June of this year, ROG officially launched the ROG Z1 Extreme version of its handheld gaming console, starting at 4,999 yuan (about $685). Recently, the company also introduced the ROG handheld Z1 version globally, which is priced at $599.

Now, ROG has unveiled a direct comparison of the gaming performance between these two handheld consoles:

ROG Z1 Extreme

When running games with higher configuration requirements like “Elden’s Ring” and “Cyberpunk 2077” at 1080p resolution, low image quality, and 30W power consumption, the ROG handheld Z1 Extreme version achieves a frame rate exceeding 40fps, while the Z1 version hovers around 30fps.

At 720p resolution, medium image quality, and 30W power consumption, the frame rate gap between the two versions narrows, with the Z1 model also delivering a gaming experience of more than 40fps.

Let’s delve into the specifications of the AMD Z1 and Z1 Extreme processors:

  • Z1: It has 6 cores and 12 threads, an acceleration frequency of 4.9GHz, a 16MB L3 cache, and a 4CU core display.
  • Z1 Extreme: This version steps up the game with 8 cores and 16 threads, an acceleration frequency of 5.1GHz, a 16MB L3 cache, and a 12CU core display.

Both versions of the ROG handheld come equipped with a 1080P full HD screen featuring a high refresh rate of 120Hz and a rapid 7ms response time. They also support FreeSync Premium anti-tearing technology, eliminating screen tearing issues and ensuring the utmost visual clarity and smoothness. Additionally, the screen boasts a brightness level of 500nits and supports ten-point touch functionality.

As of now, you can purchase the ROG handheld Z1 Extreme version starting at 4,999 yuan (about $685) on JD.com, while the Z1 version is not yet available.
