Microsoft has made a significant announcement concerning the fate of the Cortana voice assistant in the Windows ecosystem. Originally scheduled to conclude its support by the year’s end, Cortana has surprisingly exited the scene earlier than anticipated. The latest reports reveal that Microsoft no longer provides independent support for Cortana as a standalone feature within Windows.
With the release of Windows 11, users who update Cortana via the app store will be met with a software notification stating, “The standalone Cortana application in Windows has been deprecated.” Similarly, on Windows 10, Cortana, once a constant companion for users, will also bid farewell in a matter of days or possibly a week, marking its official end of support.
Cortana, the artificial intelligence voice assistant, initially garnered high expectations. Its moniker is also a nod to the AI assistant linked with the main character, Master Chief, in Microsoft’s renowned franchise “Halo.” It served Windows users in a manner akin to how it supported and accompanied the fictional Master Chief.
