Recently, BMW unveiled its electric 5-series sedan, the BMW i5, marking a significant milestone as it rolled off the European assembly line. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the plant’s production in 2023, the i5 becomes the third all-electric model to be launched at the Dingolfing plant within the last two years, following the iX and i7. BMW aims to increase the production share of pure electric vehicles to over 40% at its most extensive European production base next year.

In terms of design, the new BMW i5 embraces BMW’s fresh family-style design language. Unlike the i7, it features a sportier look with a flattened kidney-closed front grille similar to the i3. The distinct angel-eye headlights on both sides add to their recognizable appeal, and the lower part of the front fascia incorporates fangs for a more aggressive appearance.

Along the sides, the BMW i5 boasts a more robust body waistline, exuding a sense of strength. The striking blackened sports wheels add to its athletic stance. BMW opted for a semi-hidden door handle design, reducing drag and enhancing the vehicle’s aerodynamics.

The new i5 measures 5060x1900x1515mm. Its length, width, and height have been upgraded from its predecessor. The wheelbase is 2995mm.

The BMW i5 interior design inside the car resembles the new 7 Series, creating a tech-forward atmosphere. Moreover, the center console boasts a 12.3-inch + 14.9-inch super-large curved dual-screen display, showcasing cutting-edge technology. A MINI-style electronic gear lever, similar to the i3, replaces the traditional gear lever. Furthermore, a refined crystal disc control center is inspired by the iX.

It accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 6.0 seconds, with a top speed of 193km/h. Equipped with an 81.2kWh ternary lithium battery pack, the i5 achieves a comprehensive cruising range of 497-582km under WLTP conditions.
