Honor officially launched the new flagship, Honor Magic V2, which belongs to the latest generation of foldable smartphones. The foldable phone measures only 9.9mm thick and weighs 231g when closed. The starting price for the Honor Magic V2 is 8,999 yuan ($1255), and its official release date is July 20.
Previously, consumers faced difficulties due to the thickness of folding screen phones. Honor’s CEO, Zhao Ming, revolutionized the design concept of folding screens with the Honor Magic V2. Instead of combining two elements into one, it “divides the bar phone into two,” effectively breaking the boundaries between bar phones and folding screens.
Zhao Ming emphasized reducing the thickness and weight of folding screens. The Honor Magic V2 series underwent complete restructuring in various aspects, such as architecture, materials, devices, and modules. Each component was customized to achieve thinness and lightness.
Regarding the hinge components crucial to folding screens, the Magic V2 series features Luban titanium hinges. These hinges utilize self-developed shield steel materials, capable of withstanding pressures up to 1800MPa (MPa) and possessing a hardness of 550HV. The shaft cover of the hinge employs titanium alloy 3D printing, reducing its width by 27% compared to aluminum alloy while increasing strength by 150%, achieving a better balance between lightness and reliability.
The Honor Magic V2 series features custom-made components. These include a 0.22mm ultra-thin heat dissipation VC, a Type-C interface module, and a fingerprint recognition module. These elements also compress the internal space in the overall structure. It successfully balances consumers’ desire for larger screens and the portability of mobile devices.
It is the world’s first folding screen phone to offer internal and external screens with zero-risk dimming and eye protection. Additionally, it incorporates the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 leading-edge processor, a self-developed radio frequency enhancement chip, and a new generation of Honor Qinghai Lake dual batteries(5000mAh) for extended battery life. These features combine to deliver a revolutionary folding screen experience to consumers.
The Honor Magic V2 comes in two versions: one with 16GB+256GB storage priced at 8,999 yuan ($1255) and another with 16GB+512GB storage priced at 9,999 yuan ($1395). The Magic V2 Ultimate Edition starts at 11,999 yuan ($1675). Pre-sales for the Magic V2 series started at 21:30 on July 12, 2023, with official sales beginning at 10:08 on July 20.
