On June 26th, Gizcoupon reported that a digital blogger on Weibo (a Chinese social media platform) known as @数码闲聊站 leaked the codenames of the latest flagship models from the Xiaomi brand, which are “Houji” and “Shennong.” It is worth noting that both codenames are derived from characters in Chinese mythological stories and are associated with agriculture. All indications point to the “flagship model” mentioned above, the Xiaomi 14 series. This blogger further stated that the new machine will be “experience is king, appearance is king, and Leica is king.”

Xiaomi 14 Series

Gizcoupon observed that previous codenames for Xiaomi flagship models were often related to Western mythologies and movie characters. For example, the codename for Xiaomi 12 Pro was “Zeus,” Xiaomi 12S Ultra was “Thor,” and Xiaomi 12 was “Cupid.” Xiaomi 13 Ultra was codenamed “Ishtar.”

As for the Xiaomi 13 series, several models were given codenames based on characters from Chinese mythological stories. For instance, Xiaomi 13 was codenamed “Fuxi,” and Xiaomi 13 Pro was codenamed “Nüwa.”

With the leaked codenames for the Xiaomi 14 series, it is expected that this series will continue the naming convention of using characters from Chinese mythological stories, similar to the Xiaomi 13 series.

“Houji” is the great-grandson of the Yellow Emperor and served as an agricultural official during the times of Yao and Shun. He is widely regarded as the one who started cultivating millet and wheat, among other crops. “Shennong” refers to the Yan Emperor, who is also known as the Shennong Clan. It is said that he tasted hundreds of herbs. Furthermore, he invented the techniques of slash-and-burn agriculture, taught people to cultivate land, and introduced the production of pottery and cooking utensils.

Xiaomi 14 series specifications

Combining this information with previous reports from Gizcoupon, the Xiaomi 14 series is expected to be equipped with a front-facing camera capable of 4K video recording. It will also feature a USB 3.2 interface. Furthermore, the rear camera setup will include a periscope lens supporting up to 5x optical zoom.

Specifically, the Xiaomi 14 will have a periscope lens with 3.9x optical zoom and a focal length of 90mm. But Xiaomi 14 Pro will feature a periscope lens offering 5x optical zoom and a focal length of 115mm.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor (SM8650). It will also have a built-in 5000mAh battery, supporting 90W or 120W fast charging. Additionally, it will support 50W wireless charging.
