On June 21st, Gizcoupon reported that The international cybersecurity company Group-IB had released a report. The report shows over 100,000 ChatGPT user information had been exposed. It is currently being sold on underground trading platforms of the dark web.
Group-IB conducted an extensive investigation into the dark web data. He compiled statistics on ChatGPT user information discovered between June 2022 and May of this year. The report revealed that May of this year witnessed the peak of such data being sold. A total of 26,802 pieces of ChatGPT user information were sold on the dark web.
It is worth noting, as highlighted in the report, that the majority of the compromised information originated from the Asia-Pacific region, accounting for 40,999 records. Also, the Middle East and Africa followed with 24,925 records, and Europe with 16,951 records.
When analyzing the data based on countries, the highest number of records were traced back to India (12,632 records). It was followed by Pakistan (9,217 records) and Brazil (6,531 records). Additionally, data belonging to ChatGPT users from Vietnam, Egypt, the United States, France, Morocco, Indonesia, and Bangladesh have also been discovered on the dark web.

Furthermore, the analysis revealed that the majority of the compromised records (78,348 records) were stolen through the use of malicious software known as Raccon. This software operates as malware-as-a-service. In addition, Windows spyware and the covert tool Vidar were identified as the next most common methods of data theft.
