On June 16th, Gizcoupon reported that according to the recently published list by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Apple had obtained a new patent. Its number is US 11676373 B2. This suggests that Face ID will be introduced to the Mac platform.
The new patent is titled “Facial Detection and Recognition for Personal Computer Devices.” As described in the Apple patent, this invention encompasses various devices such as desktop computers, laptops, portable computers, workstations, server interfaces, and handheld computers.
The patent mentions two types of interfaces: active interfaces and passive interfaces. Active interfaces include actions like typing words on a keyboard, speaking, scrolling through lists, selecting icons using a mouse pointer, and more. On the other hand, passive interfaces involve activities such as viewing text files, images, and movies, listening to songs, audio playback, or experiencing vibrations.
Apple has designed a new user interface for personal computers in this patent. It allows the system to recognize passive users without requiring active interaction with the device and provides corresponding solutions.
Furthermore, by introducing Face ID on Mac devices, users will no longer need to manually enter passwords to access restricted computer applications. Instead, they can directly perform actions like unlocking the device.
