On June 15th, Gizcoupon reported that according to a recent report released by SellCell, an analysis based on data from over 40 buyback vendors, Apple announced last week during the release of iOS 17 Developer Preview Beta 1 update that the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X models will not be eligible for the upgrade.

The report examined the impact of the iOS 16 system release in 2022 on the prices of iPhone 6S and 7 models. Considering that the iPhone 6/7 series models cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 16, their value is expected to depreciate by 42.8%. Similarly, the iPhone 8 series and iPhone X will lose over 40% of their value.

Following the announcement at WWDC 2022, the trade-in price for the iPhone 6S Plus dropped by 11.7%. Moreover, the iPhone 7 Plus experienced a decline of 10.1%.

Upon the official release of the iPhone 14 and iOS 16, the value of an iPhone 7 Plus with 256GB storage capacity plummeted from $138 to $80. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6S Plus, already valued quite low, fell from $38 to a mere $24.

SellCell recommends users sell their iPhone 8 series and iPhone X models as soon as possible, as the closer we get to the official release of Apple iOS 17, the more severe the depreciation will become.
