On June 12th, Gizcoupon reported that according to Reuters, Ford Motor CEO Jim Farley said recently that electric vehicles will not be affordable until 2030.
Farley made this statement during an investor conference, emphasizing that reducing production costs is the key to making electric cars more affordable. He pointed out that currently, the majority of traditional automakers still face higher costs in research, development, and manufacturing of electric vehicles compared to conventional fuel-powered cars. Farley emphasized that even after two or three iterations of electric vehicle updates, it may still not be possible to reduce the cost to the same level as gasoline vehicles.
Previously, analysts predicted that the manufacturing costs of electric vehicles would reach the level of fuel-powered cars by 2025. However, Jim Farley believes that it will take until at least 2030 for the production costs of electric cars to decrease significantly. Simplified manufacturing processes, reduced labor requirements, and decreased usage of components will facilitate this cost reduction. Farley believes that only then will electric vehicle prices truly decrease, leading to widespread adoption.
Additionally, Gizcoupon also noted that Farley predicts that automakers in the future will sell electric cars through online channels to reduce sales costs. Farley mentioned that the number of users utilizing Ford’s digital services had reached 600,000, triple the figure from a year ago.
