Wang Hua: The News That 90% of Employees Over 35 Years Old in Xiaomi Wuhan Headquarters Will Be Laid Off Is A Rumor

On May 14th, Gizcoupon reported that Xiaomi, one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world, has group headquarters located in Beijing and Wuhan. The Wuhan headquarters was officially unveiled on June 29, 2017, and entered the Optics Valley Financial Harbour on November 18 of the same year. In 2018, Xiaomi Wuhan headquarters achieved a production value of 10.5 billion yuan.

Currently, Xiaomi Wuhan headquarters covers multiple core businesses, including AIoT, big data, cloud services, e-commerce, new retail, office software, overseas R&D, games, and financial investments. Today, the General Manager of Xiaomi’s Public Relations Department, Wang Hua, issued a statement in response to rumors circulating on social media about the layoff of 90% of employees over the age of 35 at Xiaomi’s second Wuhan headquarters. Wang Hua stated that after the investigation, the information was all false, and the legal department collected evidence and reported it to relevant departments. He warned that the internet is not a lawless place and that spreading rumors is illegal.

The latest financial report of Xiaomi

According to Xiaomi’s latest financial report, the company’s total revenue for the fourth quarter of 2022 reached 66.047 billion yuan, a 22.8% decrease from the same period last year, which was 85.575 billion yuan. Operating profit was 3.356 billion yuan, down 24% from the same period last year, which was 4.416 billion yuan. Net profit for the period was 3.142 billion yuan, up 28.6% from the same period last year, which was 2.443 billion yuan. Adjusted net profit was 1.461 billion yuan, down 67.3% from the same period last year, which was 4.473 billion yuan.

In the fiscal year of 2022, Xiaomi Group’s total revenue was 280 billion yuan, a 14.7% decrease from the same period last year, which was 328.3 billion yuan. Operating profit was 2.816 billion yuan, down 89.2% from the same period last year, which was 26.028 billion yuan. Net profit for the period was 2.5 billion yuan, down 87% from the same period last year, which was 19.283 billion yuan. Adjusted net profit was 8.518 billion yuan, down 61.4% from the same period last year, which was 22.04 billion yuan.

The financial report shows that as of December 31, 2022, Xiaomi had 32,543 employees, with 29,967 located in mainland China. This number is significantly lower than that of the end of the third quarter of 2022. As of September 30, 2022, Xiaomi had a total of 35,314 employees, with 32,609 located in mainland China. This means that in the fourth quarter of 2022, Xiaomi’s total number of employees decreased by 2,798, including a decrease of 2,642 employees in mainland China.
