On April 22nd, Gizcoupon reported that it is expected that the new Google Pixel 7a phone will be released on May 10th(Beijing Time). The latest leak suggests that the Google Pixel 7a will support facial recognition unlocking. Renderings once again show that the screen of it has thick bezels around it.
SnoopyTech, an insider, shared some Pixel 7a renderings on Twitter. It shows that the phone has options for facial recognition and fingerprint unlocking settings. Despite many rumors, the Pixel 6 series has never been equipped with facial recognition unlocking. Instead, Google added this feature to the Pixel 7 series, which may be achieved through the updated 10.8MP front camera.
Just like the Pixel 6 series, Google may change its mind at the last minute and remove this feature. Even if the Pixel 7a offers facial recognition unlocking, it will only be limited to unlocking the phone. For security reasons, users will still need to use screen fingerprint recognition to verify payments. This is because Google and other Android phones usually only provide 2D facial recognition, which is not secure.
The leak claims that the Google Pixel 7a will have a rear 64-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a screen refresh rate of 90Hz, support for wireless charging, and a starting price of $499.
