Today, a Chinese leaker hinted that Redmi’s new products will also use the Dimensity 8000 series of chips, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. As the Snapdragon is considered a flagship processor, there is every reason to think that the next phone to come with it will be called the Redmi K60.
When compared with the previous models, we assume that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be used in the Redmi K60 Pro or the Redmi K60 e-sports version, while the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 may be applied to the Redmi K60. Also, we think there will be a Dimensity variant of the series.
Snapdragon 8 chips’ architecture
The two Qualcomm chips are based on TSMC’s 4nm process. Among them, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 adopts the new “1+2+2+3” octa-core architecture design. Apart from this, the super core is upgraded to Cortex X3, and the large core is upgraded to Cortex A715. However, as a small core, it still uses the Cortex A510.
In contrast, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 adopts a “1+3+4” octa-core design. The super core is Cortex X2, and the CPU frequency is increased to 3.2GHz. At the same time, the power consumption of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen is too high. The company said that the CPU power consumption is reduced by about 30% compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Also, the GPU power consumption is reduced by up to 30%. And overall power consumption of the platform is reduced by about 15% compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
It is worth noting that as Redmi’s flagship product line, the K40 series and K50 series have already managed to set a path for upcoming phones in the premium segment. Not surprisingly, the Redmi K60 series will be the “flagship welder” in 2023. We think it’s scheduled to hit the market in Q1 of 2023.
