Xiaomi 14 Ultra Testing Single-Point Ultrasonic Fingerprint

Today, Weibo digital blogger @数码闲聊站 unveiled the latest news about a specific ultra-large model of the Snapdragon 8 Gen3. It is believed that the leaked details originate from the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

As per the reports, testing has commenced on the engineering model of the 8 Gen3 ultra-large cup, focusing on the “single-point ultrasonic” fingerprint solution. However, confirmation of the implementation and active verification of the solution is still pending. Nonetheless, dual-supplier alternatives are on standby and are likely to be available next year, promoting the adoption of the ultrasound solution.

The “single-point ultrasonic” is a method of fingerprint detection for mobile phones that differs from the “wide-area ultrasonic.” The latter generates ultrasonic waves from multiple points, completing fingerprint detection based on the reflected wavelength. In contrast, “single-point ultrasonic” sends ultrasonic waves within the vicinity of that specific ultrasound point, exhibiting distinct differences in transmission range and sensitivity between the two methods.

According to information previously disclosed by the same blogger, Goodix’s ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint recognition solution is undergoing testing and may receive official commercialization by year-end. Compared to Qualcomm’s ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint recognition solution, Goodix’s alternative is more cost-effective. Consequently, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra may opt for Goodix’s ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint recognition solution.
