Lu Weibing Talks About The Xiaomi Civi Series: Traction Track Change, Redefining “New Trend Smartphone”

On May 23rd, Gizcoupon reported that Xiaomi announced that the official release of Xiaomi Civi 3 is scheduled for May 25th, Beijing time. Lu Weibing, the General Manager of the Redmi brand, took to Weibo and shared an insightful post. It unveils the reasons behind Xiaomi’s commitment to excellence in the Civi series.

According to Lu Weibing, the concept of “trendy smartphones” has long been distorted. The most profitable product line in the Chinese mobile phone industry is not the high-end flagship with the highest price nor the entry-level products with the highest sales volume. Instead, it has always been the so-called “trendy devices” within the price range of 2000-3000 RMB (approximately $283-$425). They are internally referred to as “grain silo phones” by other companies.

These so-called “trendy devices” are actually “offline devices” that rely on offline channels and persuasive sales tactics to create a significant information gap, allowing them to sustain the high premium of “low specifications at a high price.” The significance of Xiaomi’s commitment to Xiaomi Civi lies in leading the transformation of the trendy smartphone arena. It will redefine the concept of a “new trendy device.”

Regarding the definition of a “trendy smartphone,” Lu Weibing believes it entails pioneering aesthetic trends. Moreover, it needs to deliver genuinely appealing portrait capabilities and offer powerful performance experiences.
