AI Healthcare Detects Colds with 70% Accuracy

On the morning of April 10th, Beijing time, according to reports, AI Healthcare made another breakthrough. Researchers from the Indian Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology analyzed the voices of 630 Germans, of whom 111 had colds. The researchers aimed to determine who was healthy and who had a cold by analyzing their voices.

The researchers primarily analyzed the rhythm of human speech, which is equivalent to harmonics, where the amplitude decreases as the frequency increases. They believed that colds would break the usual pattern of voice. Then the researchers inputted the information into a machine-learning algorithm to differentiate between normal and sick voices.

The test subjects were first asked to count from 0 to 40, then tell the researchers what they did over the weekend, and finally recite Aesop’s fable “The North Wind and the Sun.” The research found that AI Healthcare’s accuracy in determining whether the subject had a cold reached 70%.

Regarding the value of this technology, the researchers explained that if AI Healthcare can determine whether a person has a cold, there is no need to waste money and time on seeing a doctor. Of course, it will be difficult for employees to pretend to be sick and take leave in the future.

Last year, a research team attempted to diagnose Parkinson’s disease by analyzing patients’ breathing patterns, and AI could even determine whether someone had depression or cancer by analyzing their voice.
