Roborock G20S Ultra Review: Next-Gen Cleaning Power

Last month, Roborock launched the P20 Pro sweeping robot with the first-ever chassis lift and enhanced 18,500Pa hurricane suction. It was only with the announcement of a cost-effective flagship that the true flagship sweeping and mopping robot for the G20 series was announced as the Roborock G20S Ultra.

Design

The design of the Roborock G20S Ultra is unconventional. Unlike many other Roborock products, which feature a restrained and minimalist look in pure white, the G20S Ultra is much more energetic in design. Its base station features flat lines and a complex color system. There is a mirror-black finish, which has given it a gradient effect, adding an element of luxury to this piece. At the same time, such a glossy finish might appear to attract dust very easily, though-a minor trade-off with its aristocratic appearance.

Roborock G20S Ultra

The bottom of the G20S Ultra uses a splicing design, and the side panel with the Roborock logo acts as the dust bag cover. Inside, there’s a dust bag and a slot for cleaning liquid. There’s also an extra 2.5L dust bag that allows up to 60 days of maintenance-free operation. On top of the station are fresh and sewage water tanks with capacities of 4L and 3L, respectively. With the water supply and drainage version, it brings more convenience since you need to replace the dust bag only every 60 days.

The robot itself possesses a sleek black body with a mix of matte and glossy surfaces. Different from previous models with a protruding laser radar, the top of the G20S Ultra is flat to ensure smooth passage in low spaces. Standing only at 7.98 cm in height, it surely is one of the slimmest sweeping and mopping robots available.

It features an industry-first chassis lift on its bottom that enables it to surmount obstacles as high as 4 cm. It uses two longer spiral arc edge brushes that reach in to clean corners and an integrated rubber-bristle main brush said to achieve zero hair entanglement. The G20S Ultra returns to its rotating mop design, supporting both lifting and mechanical extension.

Cleaning

A set of data indicates that even though 47% of furniture still has a bottom clearance between 90-110 mm, most sweepers available on the market are about 110 mm high. This has brought a universal problem to so many houses that use sweeping and mopping robots: it cannot reach the lower furniture spaces due to height restrictions for thorough cleaning.

Roborock did take that challenge with the G20S Ultra, whose height is only 7.98 cm or 79.8 mm. Given the ultra-thin nature of this robot, it succeeds in cleaning such low-lying spaces that were earlier inaccessible and expands possibilities toward a cleaner home environment. The key to this slim profile is in the removal of the classic laser radar “watchtower” from the top of the device, hence making it flatter and able to glide into tighter spaces without issues.

This does not mean that without the classic laser radar, the Roborock G20S Ultra compromises on navigation and obstacle avoidance. It is equipped with dual-light source solid-state laser radar navigation, effectively upgrading its mapping and obstacle avoidance capability. Early this year, Roborock introduced this technical route with its V20 sweeping and mopping robot, attaining an ultra-thin body design of 8.2 cm. The G20S Ultra takes it further by introducing the Star Navigation 2.0 system, fitted with triple sensors that provide a comprehensive perception solution.

Sensors

It features a high-precision 3D-TOF solid-state laser radar with three-dimensional perception. The light source consists of two dot matrix and array lasers, with a maximum recognition distance of 10 meters. This further allows for a broad laser array that covers up to a 20-meter-wide and 1.3-meter-high space. Combining long-distance with efficient three-dimensional geometric mapping of the whole scene, G20S Ultra will guarantee the best navigation.

It also installs a vertical laser edge sensor, besides an RGB camera. Living up to its name, this Ultra vertical structured light enables the G20S Ultra to perceive and identify wall corners. This will help address the industrywide problem of edge scanning while boosting its ability to avoid obstacles like wires. It will be able to identify more than 26 categories and 108 types of objects, showing advanced recognition capability.

Other features

In actual use, Roborock G20S Ultra has extraordinary obstacle avoidance; it carefully works its way around objects that have fallen to the floor, like toys, ensuring a comprehensive cleaning with almost zero contact. Its ultra-thin body enables it to go under the bed, stool, and chair, eliminating common sanitary dead corners. This includes the side brush and mop, mounted on a robotic arm that stretches when tackling complicated areas, such as table and chair legs, to clean those blind spots-much like a human hand would.

Equipped with an industry-leading 18,500 Pa of suction power, the G20S Ultra significantly raises the bar from its predecessors. With this strong suction power, blocky debris, snack crumbs-even larger solid waste in the form of coffee beans-can be cleaned efficiently. When bigger pieces of trash are detected, it will adjust its speed downwards in order to suck it up effectively and clean. The robot is fitted with a double-rotation mop working at 200 revolutions per minute, which can support a maximum of 30 different levels in terms of water volume adjustment. Liquid will be instantly absorbed and stains instantly removed to restore the floor to its original cleanliness.

Besides that, Roborock G20S Ultra has a “0 tangle cleaning system” that is supposed to resist the tangles of hair. Equipped with an upgraded main brush-inclined rubber bristles of 45° and widened soft rubber blades, it gathers, breaks up, and sucks in the hair without tangling its brushes. This system, along with its innovative obstacle-crossing ability, presents it as the most privileged choice for proper home cleaning.

Experience

The Roborock G20S Ultra has an all-around self-cleaning base station with advanced features: 80-degree hot water sterilization, UVC sterilization, automatic antibacterial deodorization, dust collection, hydration, and drying. At the bottom of the tray and gaps, it has a “wiper” structure on its detachable cleaning tray, just like windshield wipers on a car, which ensures effective cleaning.

Roborock G20S Ultra applies the advanced interactive RRmindGPT model, which is able to identify complex sentences, obscure sentences, multi-round dialogue, and even dialects. Examples include casual voice commands such as “The baby is sleeping in the bedroom” or “The kitchen floor is a bit dirty”, and it will manage the corresponding cleaning work. This makes the robot more intuitive and user-friendly, especially for daily use.

Moreover, the Stone App’s “AI Worry-Free Mode 2.0” allows the G20S Ultra to identify floor materials and room types, automatically adjusting the cleaning strategy. It enables intelligent cleaning of the robot by taking route preference, suction power, and water volume into consideration; thus, it is very ideal for elderly users who want hands-free cleaning. Simply select it in the app, and the robot takes care of the rest.

Pet Mode 3.0″ in the new model pays extra attention to areas with pet supplies, providing them with deeper cleaning. Besides, there is also an RGB camera and fill light on the G20S Ultra, supporting video calls and night illumination. Users can make video calls with family members remotely through the app when they are away from home or use it as a monitor. In addition, it may bring more convenience and functions to home cleaning.

Conclusion

With a thinner design, the Roborock G20S Ultra fits into more low spaces and cleans. Equipped with an 18,500Pa of suction, this upgraded model crosses obstacles as high as 4 cm easily, improving its “off-road” capability. Equipped with an upgraded chassis, it also improves escape capabilities. Meanwhile, the new side and roller brushes feature anti-hair entanglement. Upgrade your robotic experience with the addition of robotic arms for automatic disassembling the mops. Considering it’s even better than its predecessor in many aspects, the G20S Ultra is curiously more affordable for its class of flagships. The type of model that’s ideal for homes with complex layouts and high demands of cleaning, this fits a user’s needs in most every way. On a budget, one deserves to find an alternative with the Roborock P20 Pro. Conclusion In designing the G20S Ultra, Roborock represents advanced design combined with value.
