Recently, DXOMARK released the test scores for the Xiaomi 14 in terms of imaging and screen performance. The Xiaomi 14’s imaging performance, DXOMARK gave positive feedback, noting a significant improvement in image quality compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13. In various testing scenarios, the Xiaomi 14 consistently captured rich details while maintaining low levels of noise. The neutral white balance contributed to impressive results, especially in capturing scenic photos. Additionally, the Xiaomi 14 excelled in zoom performance, delivering clear and detailed images in the telephoto mode. In terms of video, the device exhibited a wide dynamic range, accurate exposure, and adept handling of details and textures, enhancing the overall video experience for users.

However, DXOMARK also highlighted some shortcomings in the Xiaomi 14’s imaging capabilities. When capturing outdoor portraits in strong light or backlight conditions, the facial contrast was lower, occasionally leading to overexposure. In scenes with motion, artifacts might appear, impacting the natural feel of photos. While the autofocus performance improved in video, it could still exhibit instability in panning scenes. Additionally, in low-light conditions, the video imaging of the Xiaomi 14 showed noticeable noise. There was room for improvement in rendering skin tones.

Shifting the focus to the screen aspect, DXOMARK acknowledged that the Xiaomi 14’s screen provided an excellent experience across various usage scenarios. The screen exhibited high smoothness, ensuring a seamless experience whether browsing the web or playing games. In low-light environments, the screen brightness adjustment was appropriate, and the color performance was outstanding. Nevertheless, there is room for improvement in the screen flicker management of the Xiaomi 14. Despite having anti-flicker features, some degree of flickering was observed in the default mode. Furthermore, despite Xiaomi’s claim of a peak brightness of 3000 nits, DXOMARK engineers found that the actual highest brightness during HDR video playback was only 2740 nits, potentially leading to insufficient brightness and loss of dark details when watching HDR10 content.

Although the Xiaomi 14 achieved certain accomplishments in imaging and screen performance, there are still areas that require improvement. Xiaomi may address these issues in future product updates to enhance and optimize the overall user experience.
